Malaysia becoming top destination to ‘meet and experience’, Tourism Malaysia chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 — Malaysia is moving fast in becoming one of the main destinations for travellers “to meet and experience” said Tourism Malaysia Chairman Datuk Siew Ka Wei.

Speaking at the launching of the 4th Cafe Malaysia exhibition 2018, Siew said Malaysia has it all for leisure and business travellers.

“We have tourism that range from million-year-old rainforest and islands along with beautiful beaches to shopping and luxury holidays.

“With a favourable currency exchange rate, you will find that Malaysia is a value-for-money destination, from hotel rates, food and beverages to other holiday lifestyle choices in terms of affordable pricing and quality,” he said during the event exhibition held at Matrade Convention and Exhibition Centre here today.

Past successful events such as the 2016 Perfect China Annual Stockist meeting and convention, FIATA World Congress 2017 and Cafe Malaysia 2017 also bolster Malaysia’s profile as the ideal destination, said Siew.

“Malaysia will also play host to more international events such as the World Urban Forum 2018, World Cancer Congress 2018 and the 84th World Library and Information Congress 2018.

“The three events alone are expected to attract some 21,000 international visitors to Malaysia with an estimated economic impact of RM 250 million in terms of job creation and demand for tourism and related services,” he said.

Others soon to be completed attractions such as the Desaru Coast, 20th Century Fox World Malaysia, as well as new hotels such as Four Seasons KL, Doubletree by Hilton and W Hotels KL will also draw more tourist into the country, he added.

Cafe Malaysia was first launched in 2015 and act as a platform for the gathering of key players in the tea and coffee industries.

This year’s exhibition from January 25 to January 27 has attracted over 160 exhibitors from 22 countries and is expected to bring some 10,000 visitors.
