Sarawak visitor arrivals rise to 3.76 mil in first 10-months of 2019

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 3.76 million visitor arrivals as of October this year – an increase of 4.59 per cent as compared to the same period in 2018, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said in his winding up speech in the State Legisative Assembly today that the top five sources of visitors for Sarawak are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and China.

 “In conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign, Sarawak aims to achieve five million visitor arrivals with RM8.18 billion in tourism receipts,” he said.
For the first half of 2019, Abdul Karim said Malaysia received 13.35 million of tourists, an increase of 4.9 per cent and recorded a 6.8 per cent growth in tourism receipts.

He said this contributed to RM41.69 billion over the same period in 2018.

Malaysia has also launched Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMY 2020) with a target of 30 million tourists and RM100 billion in tourism receipts, with a campaign focusing on ecotourism, arts and culture, he said.
